Greens/EFA Action Plan to reduce flood risks in Europe

1. Cut Emissions! 🌍

Climate change causes more extreme weather. We need to step up our fight against it; implement stronger climate goals, ditch fossil fuels, boost renewable energy, and support sustainable agriculture.

2. Embrace Nature 🌳

Resilient and strong nature is key to fighting floods. We need to restore it where we can. Invest in projects like rebuilding wetlands, reforesting areas, and creating water-retaining landscapes to absorb excess water and protect communities.

3. Ensure a strong Climate Adaptation Law 📜

We can already see the effects of climate change. Next to preventing further climate change, we need to make Europe ready for its consequences with a robust EU Climate Adaptation Law. We need to ensure critical infrastructure is climate-proof by 2030 and manage water use sustainably by 2027.

4. Support Each Other 🤝

We need to expand solidarity across EU countries. Countries need to implement early warning systems for extreme weather and enhance mutual support in crises through a unified Civil Defence Mechanism.

5. Fund Prevention & Response 💶

Boost funding for disaster prevention and response. Ensure resources are available for rebuilding and preventing future floods, with flexibility to handle unexpected events.
