On Tuesday 23rd November, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will cast their final vote on the CAP, the Common Agricultural Policy, outlining European farming policy for the next five years.
But, the CAP deal on the table will lead to huge complications for biodiversity, our climate and our farmers.
Farmers, biodiversity and the climate badly need a true transformation and reorientation of EU agricultural policy. The CAP was supposed to be the big building block of the European Green Deal. What remains is a series of empty slogans with big agri-business as usual or, in many cases, a deterioration of the status quo.
There is no maximum payment to large farms. The abuse of migrant workers will remain unpunished. The CAP is also unfair, with unequal payments within and between EU countries.
There will be no real control over how the money is spent by EU member states. There is no assessment of its effectiveness on the ground. This will open the door to corruption and EU taxpayers will fund five more years of the CAP for no positive change.
More than 14,000 European citizens signed our petition to prevent this CAP from being adopted by the European Parliament. We want MEPs to vote this CAP down. We are close - but we need your help.
Send them an email and ask them to #VotethisCAPdown.
If we all raise our voice, we have a chance to take this bad deal off the table.
