Dear ministers, don’t destroy our forests

The love for nature is something that brings all Europeans together. But, the Christian Democrat EPP Group is on a crusade against nature, by targeting the EU deforestation law, with help from the far right. We need to stop them - as we have done in our fight for the nature restoration law.

Why is the EPP so intent on destroying nature? We know people don’t want to buy products of deforestation and companies are ready to deliver on that now. How does the EPP not see this?

This new EU deforestation law prohibits companies selling products that come from deforestation or human right violations.

With every weakening and delay of the deforestation law, we destroy more forests worldwide and the life within them. This law - adopted with broad support, in the European Parliament and also amongst EU countries’ ministers, is essential to protect our forests, which are vital not only for biodiversity but also for the climate and the wellbeing of future generations.

With their actions, the EPP is proving themselves unreliable and irresponsible partners - including to the many companies that have already invested to prepare for the legislation coming into force.

👉 The legislation is now being negotiated between the Council, representing ministers of the EU countries, and the Members of the European Parliament. The ministers said earlier that they would not support the gutting of the EU deforestation law. We need them to hold that position. That is where you can help.
