But right now big US Tech Bros are attacking our freedom. And they are fighting hard.
Our feeds are flooded by far right talking points, boosted by algorithms that thrive on fear and outrage.
AI-systems are out of control, from ‘nudify’ apps to chatbots manipulating vulnerable people into self-harm and suicide.
Elon Musk attacks the European Union directly, with the support of US President Donald Trump. Mark Zuckerberg shadowbans accounts by activists fighting for LGBTI and reproductive rights.
You would expect that Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission President, would stand firm with us, protecting our European values against the bullies from the US, right? Right? Unfortunately that is not the case.
She is proposing to weaken the EU digital laws that are there to protect us and our children online.
It would allow the Big Tech to use our personal pictures, posts and online behaviour to train their AI models, without our consent.
It would make it easy for companies to create detailed profiles about people and to share and sell these, but harder for you to get your own information from those companies
It would delay already agreed EU rules that protect our personal data from high-risk AI models.
Together with 9 Members of the European Parliament we started this petition to tell Von der Leyen not to further give in to the big tech bullies and to stand strong for our digital rights. She must prioritise the safety of people in Europe over corporate profit. Your signature on this petition will make our opposition stronger. It will make our voices louder.
We have stood for our rights before. We will double-down on our belief in freedom to speak up, together with you.
