Nature is the basis of our food production. We all know that.
All our food originates in nature. We grow crops in living soils. Insects pollinate fruit trees, and help us to control pests. We catch fish from rivers and seas.
But right now, we are destroying nature. Soils are being degraded. Bee populations are crashing. Marine wildlife is in decline. Farmers and fishers are struggling to keep up production. Accelerating climate change is only making the situation worse.
They want us to believe that stronger laws to protect nature and climate will make food prices go up and farmers go out of business. They claim people will go hungry as a result.
We produce more than enough food to feed ourselves.
The biggest threat to food security is climate change and ecosystem collapse.
By working with nature, not against it, we can sustain and even increase our food production - and reduce the use of harmful pesticides.
Only big agribusiness and food companies profit from nature-destructive production methods. They rake in record profits while nature, farmers and fishers are suffering.
Enough of the nonsense arguments that nature protection and food production cannot go together. Without nature, there’s no food. We need to protect, not exhaust, the natural resources we rely on for our food production.
