PFAS, they’re everywhere. You may have heard of PFAS in non-stick frying pans and raincoats, but did you know these forever chemicals are found in countless other products? Even in food packaging, medicines and pesticides. 👀
Many PFAS are toxic; others interfere with your hormone system. Yet, the chemical industry refuses to phase out PFAS as they profit from their production, putting the health of millions of Europeans at risk.
Science is clear: PFAS can cause liver damage, thyroid disorders, obesity, fertility problems, cardiovascular disease and cancer. The Nordic Council of Ministers has estimated that the public health cost of PFAS is a staggering €52-84 billion per year in Europe.
Because PFAS barely degrade naturally and have been used for decades, they are now everywhere. Studies show many of us are exposed to PFAS through food and drinking water, creating risks for human health.
This has to stop. We cannot allow the chemical industry to continue poisoning our air, drinking water, soil and ultimately our bodies, forever. The new European Commission must act now by:
It is important to make our voices heard. The chemical industry wants to continue business as usual. And they are a formidable opponent: the chemical sector is one of the biggest spenders on lobbyists in Europe. But together we can beat them.
